Should we ever feel nostalgia or regret our origins?
Pezull, that in albanian means “suspended” talks about artist return to Albania after at least 10 years of absence, since she moved to Italy with her family during the large emigration of 1997. In this scenario, a kind of ideal narrative takes shape, it’s a return that leads Kanda to re-observe and experience again an unspoken harmony with her place of origin and put the mosaic tesserae together with the only possible way, the one of sensations and subjectivity. Instinctive and irrational, her interrogation, sometimes naive, accepts and refuses nostalgia. Time merges with contradictions and hesitations.
The photographic act itself is embodied in an epiphany that contains both sedimented memories and the discrete astonishments of these new encounters. For a moment, a road that leads through skin and surface is opened up, asking the viewer to consciously surrender to his own intuitions and a blind allegiance to real life, or at least to what remains, the image and rather its latent nature. This photographies are almost entirely nocturnal images, a temporal space in which the transition from day to night metaphorically brings about a change of state, it is a space full of transformative dynamics.
While creating this work Kanda apprehend at some point something strange and irreducible whose intensity, from the land-scape to the inhabitants, might refuse her. However, in front of her lens, this new world, the Albania corrupted by the absurdity of a recent story, makes a stand and disappear one instant later.
